Microsurgical resection of intramedullary spinal cord hemangioblastoma.

چکیده
Spinal cord hemangioblastomas account for about 10% of spinal cord tumors. They usually arise from the dorsolateral pia mater and are characterized by their significant vascularity. The principles and techniques of safe resection are different than those employed for the more commonly occurring intramedullary glial tumors (e.g. ependymoma, astrocytoma) and consist of circumferential detachment of the tumor margin from the surrounding normal pia. This video demonstrates the microsurgical techniques of resection of a thoracic spinal cord hemangioblastoma. The video can be found here: http://youtu.be/yT5KLi4VyAo.

Intramedullary hemangioblastoma - local experience of a tertiary clinic.
BACKGROUND Intramedullary hemangioblastomas are rare benign tumors, occurring sporadically or in von Hippel- Lindau disease. METHODS We describe our local surgical experience with intramedullary hemangioblastomas. Clinical, imaging and surgical data from five consecutive hemangioblastoma cases identified from a series of 59 patients with intramedullary tumors treated between 2003-2009 are rev...
متن کاملSuccessful surgical strategy for a cervical hemangioblastoma: Case report
BACKGROUND Hemangioblastomas are hypervascular lesions and hence their surgical management is challenging. In particular, if complete resection is to be attained, all feeding and draining vessels must be occluded. Although most intramedullary spinal cord tumors are treated utilizing a posterior approach, we describe an anterior surgical strategy for resection of an intramedullary cervical heman...
متن کاملSurgical Outcome of Spinal Cord Hemangioblastomas
OBJECTIVE Spinal cord hemangioblastomas are rare tumors. Despite their benign, slow-growing nature, they can cause severe neurological consequences. The purpose of this study was to evaluate variable factors, including clinical features, tumor findings, the extent of resection, and its recurrence or progression, which determine postoperative functional outcomes. METHODS This study included si...

STUDY DESIGN A retrospective analysis of a prospective database. OBJECTIVE To compare preoperative symptoms, ambulatory ability, intraoperative spinal cord monitoring, and pathologic cell proliferation activity between intramedullary only and intramedullary plus extramedullary hemangioblastomas, with the goal of determining the optimal timing for surgery. METHODS The subjects were 28 patien...
متن کاملIntramedullary spinal cord tumour (hemangioblastoma) - Clinical case presentation
Hemangioblastomas represent cca. 1 2,5% of all the intracranial tumours and only 2 -3% at the level of the spinal cord. The symptomatology, usually insidious, is directly proportional with the size of the tumour. The native magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan and the use of a contrast agent is the investigation of choice for diagnosing intramedullary tumours. Authors report the case of a 51 y...
